As promised, a little something about spinning. Well, maybe a big something about spinning…
My Houndesign spindle arrived from Dave and Cheri a couple of weeks ago, so I set to it. And I have to say, that spindle ROCKS! I was able to spin more on it in a half hour than I could do in all my previous attempts on my other spindle. Maybe it had to do with it being a top whorl, and the other a bottom whorl, but really? I don’t care why it works better, it just does, and I *love* it!
Check out my progress:

The funny loopy bits are from when I *ahem* dropped the drop spindle which forces the cop to slide down the shaft and loosens the top yarn where it slips off the top of the cop and onto the shaft. The spun single should still be ok. I swear it’ll be better looking when I get it off the spindle! Well, I *hope* it’ll be better looking when I get it off the spindle…
But in bigger and better news- Look what arrived at my door only a few minutes ago:
More Houndesign stuff!! (Sorry about the image colour- it was a quick and dirty photo shoot…) Dave sent some more stock along for me to sell tonight (it arrived none too soon) at the Ottawa Knitting Guild’s Vendor Night. I am really excited to see how the product is received. I’ll also be selling some of my stitch holders, so even if no one spins I should have some interest at my table. Fingers crossed! If you’re anywhere near the Woodroffe United Church this evening, drop on by and say Hi! I’d love to meet you!
Anyway, back to the spindles and stuff…;) Cheri suggested that I might want to keep one of the laceweight spindles for myself as they’re “adorable”. Well, she was right, and sorry everyone but this beauty stays with me!
I was totally smitten with it the moment I saw it. Hee! The woods Dave uses are all beautiful in their own way… check it out:
There we have a Cocobolo laceweight spindle (no you can’t have it) in the top two photos, a Cocobolo “Dervish” spindle in the next photo and a Redheart “Dervish” in the bottom one. Can you believe the colour of that last one? Yes, it’s accurate and no, it hasn’t been dyed. It’s so pretty!
Also in the box were two Nostpinnes and two wee little 1/2 yard Niddy Noddies. They are so cute… seems a funny thing to say about a tool. What do you think?
See? Cute! But perhaps my favourite part… Cheri packed the whole thing up with fleece to keep it safe.
Now I have something more to keep me occupied!
