What happened to the last 4 months? Didn’t I post yesterday? Hmm. Must have been caught in a time warp!
Just a quick note right now.
It’s time I came out of the yarn closet… Like so many in blogdom these days (but I’ll have you know I got there first! Well, maybe not…) I have been gripped by spinning. I must confess I have even kept my lurid secret fom hy husband. Little does he know the time I have spent working at my drop spindle (sorry ’bout the kitchen Love, I’ll get to it later…). Unfortunately, most of the spinning has been going on in my head since my hands don’t seem to want to cooperate… I am told I just have to find the Zen. Get into the groove. Let my worries go and just let fly on the spindle. What’s that? Take a lesson? Nah. I’m all Zen. I can figure this out. Besides, I watched my father-in-law’s wife Cheri do it, and it looked so natural. It was a bit like watching a fire, I’ll admit. You get all absorbed in the action and don’t really take in much information, but she made it look so easy! How hard could it be for me to make the same sort of flowing movement, the same lovely single as Cheri? Well, let me tell you. Hard.
I should say that I am the kind of person who gets swept up in something new in the same manner as a moth to a flame. I love something new. I love trying things out, experimenting and seeing how well I can pull it off. Often those things don’t stick around too long then I’m on to the next new thing. When it comes to spinning though, I am so enchanted by the idea of it that I keep coming back! Even though I am muffing up all the pretty roving I have I still keep coming back for more. Of course, I do tend to go a few weeks between tries (maybe I’ll improve in my sleep?) but then, sooner or later, there I am trying again. Chewing on my lip in concentration. This is not exactly the image of Zen you had in mind, is it…
I have also heard that I would have an easier time with a top-whorl sprindle. Well. Cheri and Dave to the rescue (I hope!). Dave makes drop spindles. Beautiful drop spindles. He also makes Navajo spindles, Niddy Noddies, Nostpindes, felting needle holders and all manner of other beautiful things. Even dog leads that will hold a Bloodhound! Go check out his site, Houndesign. They’re just outside Vancouver, B.C., so you’ll be keeping it all-Canadian!
That’s it for now, but next post will have pictures! I have been up to quite a bit since last post, so I will be updating photos of Snowdrop as well as some of the newer stuff. Oh, and for anyone keeping count, the sherbet sweater was cast aside by yours truly. Anna sure does look cute in her Ruffle Top though!
