Oh, let me tell you! I have had all SORTS of things on the needles!
For starters, there’s a FO! Amazing, really, since I truly prefer to knit than seam up my stuff. Here is a pair of the greatest little socks you ever did see…
It is the Afghans for Afghans pattern from the Elann website. It uses a figure eight cast on at the toe (very nifty), and the heel is put in at the end and grafted to finish. Grafting two colours you ask? Indeed! I have to admit I didn’t figure it out all on my own (thank you Barbara at Yarn Forward and Sew On!) but once you get it it totally makes sense. So you can see why this is a FO. No seams!
The next in line for finishing is a great little sweater for Evan’s first birthday. Knit in Estelle’s Royal Cotton DK it is a Debbie Bliss pattern from her Knitting Workbook.
Here’s a closer look.
I think it will suit him to a tee. I can’t wait to have pics of him wearing it!
So what is still on the needles? Well…..
The socks that I started to soothe the “It doesn’t fit me- not even close” blues are ticking along, though not very quickly as they’re my some time travel knitting. Since I don’t travel too often they don’t get enough attention. When I do knit on them I find myself getting mesmerized by the emerging stripes… what does that say about me exactly? Here they are so far-
And here’s me proving that I can actually turn a heel (my first attempt!) and have it work. I think next time I make socks I will make the heel a little deeper, using maybe 60% of the sts instead of 50%. We’ll see!
The other project that should be getting more attention than it is is the Black Hole Scarf.
Lovely, isn’t it? Unfortunately, the image doesn’t really show the colours as they are- a beautiful mix of blues and turquoises that look like water when knit up. It is Fleece Artist’s wool/silk blend. I am doing the whole thing on 4mm needles in seed stitch. It seems that no matter how long I spend knitting this thing it never gets any longer! Hence the moniker.
Well now. That’s not so bad! Next on my list are Bonne Marie Burns’ Bottoms UP! bucket hat for Fluffa!’s
knitalong. How exciting! My first knitalong! Whatever shall I wear? A funky Bernat Handicrafter cotton bucket hat of course! And perhaps one for Evan? Stay tuned to find out!
