I am very pleased to announce that the knitting on the Everyday Cardigan is done. This was a labour of love. I bought the yarn with my Christmas money from my in-laws (I would never have been able to afford it otherwise!) and sat anxiously waiting for the package to arrive in the mail. It came and I was instantly in love. The colour was described as “Warm medium brown heather with tiny bits of tangerine and teal”. This doesn’t even come close! There are dozens of other colours flecked into the yarn- it is beautiful.
See for yourself.
I started to knit it up and it was wonderful to work with. I was compelled to keep going to watch the colours emerge. Joshua became used to seeing me knitting in hand, and the dished only partly done. Laundry? Forget about it. Can’t you see I’m knitting?!
I carefully made sure to lengthen the sleeves to make up for my overly long arms, and was really pleased with the result. I picked up for the button bands, I picked up for the collar. I loved watching it come together. I sewed in the sleeves. I was brimming with excitment!
Last night some girlfriends and I were going to the movies. I wanted to wear the cardi. I wanted to look casual but pulled together. I wanted to look like a mum with style. I wanted to show off my wonderful work!
It was going to be ready in time, too.
I sewed up the first sleeve and down the side. Almost there! I thought- I’m so chuffed, I want to get some immediate gratification of just how good I am.
I tried it on.
And….?
It didn’t fit.
I couldn’t believe it.
It didn’t fit.
It was too small.
I was despondent.
We missed the beginning of the movie.
The cardi is currently sitting in a heap on the kitchen counter. I can’t even look at it. My cat Joe, on the other hand thinks it makes quite a handsome cat bed…
So as salve for my wounded heart, I cast on this:
It is my first sock. I am pretty excited! Although, considering that I had to calculate how many sts to cast on based on the yarn and needles I had (not the correct yarn for the pattern) any guesses on the final size? Anybody? I’m taking wagers…
