A blue tank to be specific- only… it doesn’t fit.
This is the first time I have finished an entire project in a week (yay me!!). I was knitting furiously during every nap time and after the baby was in bed at night with one goal in mind. Finish The Tank. And finish it in time for my finishing class tonight. I was very excited. I measured (both myself and my swatch) and set to work. It would be blue. (I have a bit of a thing for blue which is sort of funny really, since my fave colour is red… ) It would be flattering. It would elevate me to the status of Yummy Mummy.
Now, the fact that my measurements didn’t quite match those of the pattern didn’t bother me. It would fit around my er, ample bosom (these girls are still on the job!) and I didn’t want the rest to be skin tight anyway, did I? No.So off I went, knitting furiously.
Last night when I finished all the knitting I was triumphant! I tied off the shoulders so that I could don the tank and show it off to Joshua, my husband (who was already in bed, by the way).
Note the lovely shaping at the waist
The attention to detail
It was (is) truly lovely. Only it didn’t fit. I mean it really didn’t fit. It was downright baggy!
So how did this happen? There are a couple of reasons as far as I can see.
1. I shed all the leftover baby weight overnight (unlikely).
2. The knitting goblins added stitches to my knitting (I think I would have noticed that one).
3. My tension got looser between swatching and knitting the garment (more likely)… or
4. I should have listened to Jessica Fenlon Thomas (I think we have a winner!).
Armed with Ms Thomas’ article I will measure, mark and adjust my way to patterns that fit. Good thing Joshua’s into math.
On a lighter note, Evan and I, along with some friends, spent a truly wonderful morning at the park where the pool was opened and a festival was marking the occasion! Check out the New RO tonight- you just might see us there…
Also, I am now the proud new owner off a kick-ass Nikon D-70! I am in love. Go ahead and gloat, Joshua. You won. I like digital. (Long live FILM!!)
